The project brought together a team of sociologists, geographers, environmental and economic engineering scientists from University of Strathclyde, Federal University of Goiás and State University of Goiás who have been working together for up to three years.

A further Knowledge Exchange grant from the University of Strathclyde facilitated the involvement of other scientists and social organisations engaged in food and energy production. These included: Sandra Cruz from Superior School of Agriculture (ESALQ) São Paulo, the researcher Anne Winther, Michael Shaw from the Findhorn Foundation, Scotland, Arnaldo Silva Walter of the Engineering Department at UNICAMP, Bob van Luijk of Dutch trade union federation, FNV Modiaal, Aparecido Bispo and Alcimir Carmo of the Federation of Salaried Rural Workers, São Paulo.
